Decoding Physicochemical & Phytochemical Insights of Lavangadhivadagam: A Polyherbal Siddha Perspective on PCOS Care

Lavangadhi Vadagam (LV) is a Siddha polyherbal formulation known for its therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Evidence regarding its preparation and indications is documented in the classical Siddha literature, Aaviyalikkum Amudha Murai Surukkam. The objective of this study was to analyze the physicochemical and phytochemical properties of the drug LV and to provide scientific data for informed clinical interventions. The physicochemical and phytochemical analyses were carried out according to the PLIM guidelines. The physicochemical results confirmed that the formulation possesses good solubility and a mildly acidic pH, which contribute to its stability and absorption. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, phenols, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, coumarins, reducing sugars, and triterpenes. Further investigations, including heavy metal analysis, FTIR, and HPTLC studies, are recommended to standardize the formulation and provide additional scientific evidence supporting its therapeutic potential.
