Medicinal Plants Exhibiting Arshoghna Activity: A Review of Arshoghna Mahakashaya in the Context of Haemorrhoid Management

Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems in India. For the management of diseases, Ayurveda emphasises on variety of drugs. In Charak Sutrasthan Adhyaya 4 Shadvirechanashatashritiya Adhyaya, Aacharya Charaka mentioned 500 Yogas that can be utilized in management of diseases. One of such Mahakashaya is Arshoghna Mahakashaya. The drugs mentioned in this Mahakshaya are of Katu, Tikta, or Kashaya Rasa Pradhan characteristics. Most of the drugs posseses Ushna (hot) potency. These characteristics play vital role in management of Arsha. In this study, drugs mentioned in Arshoghna Mahakashaya of Charak Samhita are explained on basis of Raspanchanka in relation with Bhavprakash Nighantu, Kaiyadeva Nighantu and Dhanvantari Nighantu.
